Abstract: The treatise provides some aspects of the versatile and innovative events in the 19th century, whichconstantly addressed new challenges and questions to the Church and theology. These challenges demandedtheological refection and practical decisions, yet the Church delivered both with delay. The theological currents of that time were theoretical by nature and encompassed questions on faith and reason, on the human caught between immanence and transcendence, on the origin and basics of the Christian religion and spirituality. Other ecclesiastical practical currents defned the physiognomy of the Church and the status of its services as well as the relations between the Church and the world. The most promising currents were those related to the Tübingen School. It probably infuenced Slomšek as well.
