Abstract: Anton Martin Slomšek taught Slovene to the students of theology from the Lavantine and Klagenfurt diocese as well as to Slovene and German lawyers and public servants. Besides readers and grammar books of other authors, his teaching materials included a grammar book that he himself compiled (Inbegrif der slowenischen Sprache für Ingeborne). The grammar comprises a short introduction, three parts, an addendum on three pages and a test in Slovene on a separately paginated set of fve pages for three difculty levels. The main three parts deal with phonology (with an added list of word-formational sufxes), morphology and syntax. The addendum is a short overview of orthographic rules and the aural realization of the spoken or read (phonological) side of Slovene.
