Abstract: This treatise attempts to present the pastoral aspects of transferring the seat of the diocese from St. Andraž in the Labotska dolina Valley to Maribor. The frst part describes the pastoral state of afairs before the seat of the diocese was transferred to Maribor, stating that the borders of the dioceses defned by Joseph II did not resolve the problem of Slovenes in Styria, between the Drava River and the Mur River, since they remained in the German Diocese Graz-Seckau. The second part stresses some of the pastoral consequences brought about by the transferral of the diocese seat. Therefore Anton Martin Slomšek is rightfully named ''the Shepherd
